Mr. Michael Murrell, MCSFS, MSc., BSc. (Hons) Forensic Director
A Forensic Science Laboratory is an essential component of fighting crime in the Criminal Justice System. Creating and operating a full-service forensic science laboratory that provides forensic examination, analysis and evaluation of evidence utilizing specialized equipment is no easy task.
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has indicated that it will make forensic science a priority in 2022 and construct a state-of-the-art multidiscipline forensic science laboratory for the Antigua & Barbuda Forensic Services (ABFS) as it continues to assist law enforcement agencies in their fight against crime along with other government and non-government agencies.
It is absolutely necessary for the ABFS to have its own forensic facilities so as to be able to provide the necessary expert forensic services utilizing professionally qualified staff and specialized forensic science equipment such as Ballistic Comparison Microscope, Forensic Light Source Applications for Trace Evidence Examinations, Genetic Analyzers and PCR machines for Forensic DNA Profiling; and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (LC-MS) for Forensic Chemical Analysis.
In addition to providing forensic services, the ABFS intends to further assist by hosting professionals involved in the area of forensic science in an effort to strengthen the education awareness of law enforcement agencies, schools and other government and non-government agencies.
The Antigua & Barbuda Forensic Services (ABFS) will persist in the fight to balance the scales of justice and provide exceptional professional service to our clients.
